Okeana Whackers Golf Association
Official Rules & Format
League Overview
- Location: Indian Ridge Golf Course
- Day/Time: Friday evenings — the first group tees off at 5:00 PM
Entry & Fees
- League Fee: $100 per player, due before the season starts
- Weekly Green Fees: $32 per player
- Optional Weekly Skins Game: $20 per team ($10 each, or one player can pay $20 and collect all winnings)
Format & Pairings
- Play Style: 2-man scramble — both players hit each shot, choose the best ball, and then both play from that spot.
- Odd Number Handling: If there is an odd number of players, the solo player plays two balls for each shot.
- Weekly Pairings: Pairings are built from each player’s adjusted average and current season rank, with the best player paired with the lowest-ranked player and so on.
- Season Rank: Based primarily on last year’s results and used for pairings and tie-breakers.
- RSVP Deadline: Wednesday evening each week. Pairings and tee times are not guaranteed without a final RSVP. Any player marked TTD or with no response keeps the weekly pairings locked until updated.
Regular Season Scoring
- Total Weeks: 14 weeks played
- Scoring Weeks Counted: The best 6 scores count; higher scores are dropped.
- Rainouts: The first rainout doesn't change anything. After a 2nd rainout, the minimum counted scores drops to 5 — and stays at 5 no matter how many more rainouts happen the rest of the season.
- Rainout Adjustment: If a player has 5 counted scores and the 6th round is the final Friday rainout before the Championship, the highest score from that player’s completed rounds is added to their average.
League Rules & Conduct
Pace of Play
- Keep up with the group ahead and aim to finish 9 holes in under 2 hours.
- Maximum search time for a lost ball: 3 minutes.
- Ready golf is encouraged — if it is safe and you are ready, hit.
Lie & Relief Rules
Lie Improvement
- Place within 1 club length of the selected shot, in the same cut of grass (fairway-to-fairway, rough-to-rough, sand-to-sand).
- No placing on the fringe or green if the original lie was rough, and vice versa.
Unplayable Lies
- Base of a tree, exposed root, standing water (not casual), or embedded in thick vegetation: free relief within 1 club length, same condition.
- Normal rough or a light tree line does not qualify.
Out of Bounds / Lost Ball
- Lateral out of bounds: 1-stroke penalty; drop within 2 club lengths of the boundary last crossed, no closer to the hole.
- Exception for Hole 7: if both balls are in the pond, re-tee with a 1-stroke penalty (stroke-and-distance).
Ground Under Repair
- Free drop within 1 club length using course markings or group consensus.
Putting Surface
- Mark and clean before putting. Both players may putt; if either makes it, the hole is out.
Miscellaneous
- Tees: Men play from standard tees; seniors (55+) play from forward tees.
- No mulligans.
- All putts must be holed unless they are within putter grip and conceded.
Championship Rules
- Format: 18 holes; partners switch after 9.
- Participation: Participation is expected; missing the Championship may trigger a forfeit fee and affect payouts.
- Payouts: Top 8 finishers, plus front-9 and back-9 champion partners.
- Championship Rainout: If Championship day is rained out, the league will first try to reschedule. If a makeup date can't be worked out, final regular season standings will determine the champion instead.
- Championship Pairings: Once the final regular-season round (Aug 21) is entered, players are seeded for Championship Day pairings by their hdcp-adjusted season total — Tier B: −1/round, Tier C: −2/round — plus a one-time Championship handicap on top (Tier B: −1, Tier C: −2), same best-paired-with-lowest-ranked method used all season. The Championship round itself is still scored straight up, with no handicap applied to determine the winner.
- Back-9 Re-pairing: Once every player's front-9 score is entered, the back 9 is re-paired the same best-with-worst way, using each player's starting total plus their front-9 score.
